The Version of You That Doesn’t Care
There’s a version of you that’s ready to go for it, no matter what anybody thinks. Today, let her out.
Happy Friday, friend!
Did you know that there is a version of you that does not care?
Not that kind of not caring
We’ve been taught by society, by our families, even by leaders in the church, that we should care: about our appearance, about how we show up in the world. That’s different. I’m talking about the version of you inside, screaming to get out, who says: “You know what? I’m going for it. That dream I’ve always had, I’m going for it. If I succeed, good. If I fail, good. I’m learning, and I’m going to keep it moving.”
A lot of people never live out their dreams and end up living with regret, because they care too much about things that don’t matter.
Yesterday, I wasn’t here
Yesterday was supposed to be Day 4. Guess what? TMac wasn’t there. My alarm clock didn’t go off. My first thought was panic: they’re going to think I’m a fake, a fraud.
Then, right after that, I thought: you know what? I don’t care what they think. It wasn’t my intent. I’m going to pick up the pieces, and tomorrow I’m going to show up as my authentic self. Because if I live my life wondering what they’ll say, it will ruin the thing God put inside of me. That’s a dream killer.
Who still has power over you?
We’ve been talking all week about the morning reset: gratitude first, a different route to work, shock your system. But if you’re still carrying the weight of something somebody said to you 20, 30, 40 years ago, they still have power over you.
So release it. Stop trying to prove something to so-and-so. Prove it to yourself, to that version of you who doesn’t care. When you’re not attached to the outcome, or to other people’s opinions, watch how quickly things turn around. Watch the doors start to open.
And ask yourself: are they paying your bills? Nine times out of ten, they’re not.
Nobody’s watching like you think
Nobody wakes up wondering whether you’ll fail today. Everybody has their own problems, and right now, a lot of people are in survival mode. You’re not in their orbit.
I was golfing with someone recently who kept worrying about people watching them. Everybody out there is worried about their own golf game. Life is a game. Play your game. Enjoy it, bumps and bruises included.
Even this series is teaching me this. Day 1 had a big crowd on the live. This morning, one person was there with me. There’s a version of me that could say, “It’s not worth it.” But I’m here for that one person, and the replay will touch somebody. When God has a message for His people, that message will find His people. I don’t care about the algorithm.
What’s the worst that can happen?
In my 32 years as a nurse, especially working in hospice, I heard the same thing over and over at the end of life. Nobody said, “I wish I had more money.” They said, “I wish I’d had more time to do this or that.”
Don’t be that person. Ask yourself what the worst is that could happen. They’re not going to beat you up. It’s not going to kill you. So do it.
This weekend
- Name one thing you’ve held back on because of what someone might think.
- Ask yourself: what’s the worst that can happen? Then take one step toward it.
- Go into this weekend saying, “I don’t care.”
See you Monday, live at 6 AM Eastern on YouTube.
We should all be rich friends. — Dr. TMac
